If done correctly, window coverings can give your home a designer look while improving the feel and look of your home. If you are choosing blinds for your windows, you have a lot of options from which to choose, and it can be difficult to choose which fabric is right for you.

Blinds made of the wrong fabric or material might not provide the functionality or appearance you desired.  For this practical guide on choosing a fabric for your blinds, we have put together the right questions that you should ask. You can check more information about blinds fabrics on tekno-step.com.

IMAGINE THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR BLINDS

Functionality plays a big role in the choice of blinds style and fabric, just as it does with exposure. A dark fabric is an excellent choice for reducing glare, however it absorbs more heat than a lighter fabric. Dark fabrics absorb more heat because they reflect light more effectively.

The best way to create more privacy in a room is to use a fabric weave that is tighter or closed. A key advantage of open weave fabrics is that they let you enjoy the beauty of the surroundings while still filtering some of the glare that can enter your home during certain times of the day.

FABRIC BLINDS: PRIMARY TYPES

Fabrics for blinds come in a variety of types. Among the most popular fabrics are:

ROLLER BLINDS

Fabric roller blinds are stiffened so they can be rolled into a tube at the top of the blind, which makes it easier to roll up the blind when it is not in use. Despite being simple, easy to use, durable and made with a wide variety of fabrics, roller blinds are still one of the most popular window furnishings today.

ROMAN BLINDS

While blocking out light and providing privacy, Roman blinds provide a sophisticated and stylish appearance. In addition to being usually made from soft fabric, they are also available in various styles. If they are raised, fabric roman shades have pleats, but when they are lowered, they are flat. There are two types of romans: those with battens and those without, which provide unique looks.

BLINDS FOR GLIDE PANEL

Panel glide blinds, on the other hand, consist of flat panels of fabric as opposed to roller blinds or roman blinds, and they slide across the window instead of rolling up. This makes them perfect for large windows, sliding glass doors, and partitions.

When opened, these panels may be stacked to one side or opened from the middle. Battens may also be present or not.

VERTICAL BLINDS

One of the most versatile blinds available for adjusting the amount of light in a room is the vertical blind, which is a very practical and economical choice. To open or close the vertical blind, you simply pull the material strips across to one side and rotate the blind in a vertical direction. Overlapping the blinds prevents light from getting into the room when they are closed.

SELECTION OF FABRIC MIXES

The translucent or screen fabrics can easily be combined with a blackout fabric to achieve the advantages of each fabric. Normally, a double-blind includes two different fabrics on a single bracket in order to control the light. These blinds are also called ‘day and night blinds.

A blackout blind can maintain privacy and darkness, while translucent or screen fabric can filter natural light or allow a clear view outside.
