dry wall

Fix the big cracks in the drywall. Anything that is greater than six inches is not useful for repairing cracks in the drywall. You can mend the small cracks by using drywall strips or adhesive repair. For fixing large cracks, you have to use hard substances to cover all the cracked surfaces.

The easy method is to cut or dig the piece of drywall and fix it with the wood patches and screws. After fixing the patch, now apply the adhesive tape and mud. This process is the same as making new drywall. This fixing is long-lasting and is well-made. Cracks cannot appear if you fix the patch correctly.

Dig the corners of the cracks to make plane corners and make a square shape. You have to use the steel square and a pencil to mark the cutting lines. Then make cuts within the marking with the help of metal blade tools.

  • Install the Backing Strips:

Make two parts of construction wood and laminated wood. These parts or pieces are some inches larger in length than the larger corner of the cracks. Put one piece of wood in the crack equivalent to the larger corner of the drywall. The backing strip is fixed on the corners of the drywall.

Fix the supporting strip or patch with the help of drywall screws. These screws have been used in fixing the strips on the drywall. Put the drywall screws 1 inch away from the corner of the drywall. Put the screws at the distance of 6 inches. Reapply the same above method for fixing a new supporting strip around the contrary corner of the drywall.

  • Install the Drywall Patch:

Dig the parts of the drywall to fix the crack. It is not necessary to tightly fix it, but the joints should not have a greater width than 1/8 inch. Place the patch above the crack and fix it with the help of drywall screws. The screws are at a distance of 1 inch from the corner, and the distance between both screws is approximately 6 inches.

  • Tape the Seams:

Make the strip pieces of equal length to that of the seams or joints tape length. Protect the joints with the help of joint tape. Lap the piece of tape at the ends. Assure that the tape position is plane, having no folds.

  • Mud the Seams:

Protect the drywall strip with the help of the Popcorn ceiling removal and using the adhesive compound. You can do this by using 6 inches long drywall blade. You should be capable of look the meshwork by this compound. Keep this element for drying. Now you have to scratch the surface with the help of the blade to clear the rough particles from the surface.

Now you have to put the second coating on this mixture. Spread it outside of the corners of the first coating. Use the blade to pull the corners of the moist compound on the surface of the drywall so it slowly hides up completely. Then again, scratch the surface. Now apply the third coating of the mixture. Then put it for drying.

  • Prime and Paint the Patch:

Envelope the surface of the patch by applying a layer of primer. You can do it by using the brush used to paint the walls. Place the primer for drying. Now apply more than two layers of paint to combine the patch with the surface of drywall if required.

On the other hand, if the drywall is ready for paintwork. Then this is the best time to paint the surface. This process fully covered the patch and hid it. The new paint on the drywall surface gave a brighter look than the old one. The old paint color began to dull with time.
